Multi-Site Healthcare Facilities | Central Coast, CA

BMA Mechanical+ works with healthcare clients who are managing multiple facilities and need building systems that are efficient, practical to maintain, and consistent across sites. The Community Health Centers of the Central Coast (CHCCC) operates a growing network of state-licensed clinics throughout Central California, with a focus on serving medically underserved communities. BMA has supported CHCCC since 2014, providing mechanical, plumbing, and controls system design for OSHPD-3 primary care and dental clinics, as well as remodels and tenant improvements.

Client: Community Health Centers of the Central Coast
Value: $56M
Size: 9 Facilities (4,800SF to 23,500SF)

Understanding the operational challenge

Managing a large number of licensed clinical facilities requires more than individual project delivery. CHCCC operates 28 state-licensed sites, where system performance, maintenance, and operational visibility directly affect day-to-day operations.

BMA’s work reflects that condition. The building systems approach prioritizes:

  • Efficiency
  • Practicality
  • Ease of maintenance
  • Centralized operations control

To support this, BMA designed both the mechanical and plumbing systems, along with controls systems that provide remote and centralized access for operators to monitor performance across facilities.

Approach to delivery

These projects were delivered through a consistent design-build structure. BMA partnered with McCall Plumbing and Heating, with Neenan Group serving as the general contractor and architect of record.

This model was used to deliver eight clinics over a six-year period, with an additional project in design and permitting.

Scope of work

BMA’s involvement spans multiple locations across the Central Coast, including:

  • Templeton (19,200 SF)
  • Paso Robles (18,000 SF)
  • Arroyo Grande (4,000 SF)
  • Lompoc (23,500 SF)
  • Nipomo (4,800 SF)
  • Los Alamos (2,400 SF)
  • Oceano (13,500 SF)
  • Santa Maria (13,500 SF)
  • Cambria (3,500 SF)

Total program value exceeds $56 million, with work ongoing since 2016.

What this shows

BMA’s role centers on supporting clients who are operating multiple healthcare facilities and need systems that can be monitored, maintained, and managed across all locations. The work for CHCCC reflects a focus on system consistency, operational visibility, and coordination within a design-build delivery structure.
